B&D nineteen fret tenor banjo made by Gretsch ca. 1942/1943 (serial number 40238).  Very Good Condition.  Scarce and collectable.  The banjo is original except for the strings, bridge, add-on head guard and add-on pick holder.  The peghead and fretboard are pearloid.  The pearloid peghead overlay is firmly and cleanly attached without shrinking or lifting.  The peghead and fretboard decorations are etched.  The bound fretboard is level and smooth.  Fret wear is minimal.  Three piece neck with shiny and smooth finish with no scratches or dings.  The neck is straight with maybe some mid-board barely perceptible relief.  23″ scale and 1 1/16″ width at nut.  String height at fret 15 is 3/16″ bass and 2/16 treble with 5/8″ bridge.  Decorative heel cap.  The wood rim and resonator side walls are encircled with pearloid-type veneer.  There is no apparent tone ring or hoop.  The hardware is fairly clean.  The back of the resonator is extremely clean and shiny with just a couple of small scuffs.  The resonator attachment bolt protrudes about 1/32″ where the resonator fits snug.  The banjo has Grover Pat. geared pegs and a Grover Patent Presto tailpiece.  The banjo is 33″ long with what measures at about 10 7/8″ calf skin head and weighs about 7 lbs.  Photos supplied to add to description.  Sold as is.  Comes in a period hsc with handle and working latches.  Shipping only to physical addresses in the lower 48 states U.S.A.  No post office boxes.
